Chaos
2020-2022
Landscape—as a genre, medium, or form of representation—can be formed, framed, seen, or shaped through multiple lenses, including historical, cultural, political, and ecological perspectives.
In the Chaos series, landscape painting is not simply a representation of beautiful scenery. The sea, its waves, and the perception of the ocean reflect the experience of everyday life in the contemporary world. These artworks convey the fragile state of human existence in a damaged, unstable, and crisis-ridden era. Life is marked by constant change, and human beings must continuously adapt to stressful, unstable, and uncertain conditions.
For me, this sense of instability and unpredictability is most vividly captured in the image of an overflowing sea. As peaceful and life-giving as it may seem, the sea can suddenly surge and destroy everything in its path. We take pleasure in gazing at the sea, yet we also feel vulnerable before it—much like how we believe we have life under control while remaining unaware of what lies ahead.
